Pokémon Sword and Shield - The Isle of Armor launches 17 June

By Jack Taylor – 2 June 2020

The Isle of Armor, the first of two expansions for Pokémon Sword and Shield, will launch on 17 June.

The Isle of Armor features a new region for players to explore, with new Pokémon forms including Galarian Slowbro, Gigantamax Venusaur and Blastoise, and the legendary Pokémon Kubfu and its evolution Urshifu. Many more existing Pokémon, which were missing from the base game, will be included in the region, and will be added to the base game as part of a free update on the same day.

Other new features in The Isle of Armor include brand new moves that can be taught to Pokémon via a Move Tutor, a device called the Cram-o-matic that will give players an item in exchange for four other items, and the ability for some Pokémon to gain the ability to Gigantamax by drinking a concoction called Max Soup.

New information about The Crown Tundra - the game's second expansion, due at the end of the year - was also revealed in the trailer. Previously teased in an earlier video, two new legendary Pokémon and the Galarian forms of Kanto's legendary birds have been officially unveiled:

  • Regieleki - Electric type
  • Regidrago - Dragon type
  • Galarian Articuno - Psychic/Flying type
  • Galarian Zapdos - Fighting/Flying type
  • Galarian Moltres - Dark/Flying type

The Crown Tundra will also feature Dynamax Adventure and the Galarian Star Tournament, two new modes for players can take part in. Dynamax Adventure lets up to four players venture into dens to take on Dynamax Pokémon, while the Galarian Star Tournament features various characters from across the Galar region and even lets players team up with them in double battles.
