Nintendo of America denies Japanese titles for Wii

By Jack Taylor – 30 June 2011

Nintendo of America has confirmed that it has no plans to release Xenoblade Chronicles, Pandora's Tower or The Last Story in North America.

Following a week of campaigning to get Xenoblade Chronicles and other Japanese titles released in North America, Nintendo of America has released a statement confirming they will not be released in the region under current plans.

Thank you for your enthusiasm. We promised an update, so here it is. We never say “never,” but we can confirm that there are no plans to bring these three games to the Americas at this time. Thanks so much for your passion, and for being such great fans!

As well as Xenoblade Chronicles - which launched in Europe on September 2 - the campaign also targeted The Last Story and Pandora's Tower, two other Japanese titles with no localisation plans yet announced.

As part of the campaign, messages were left for Nintendo on its Twitter, Facebook and YouTube pages in an attempt to show the support for the three titles.

Xenoblade Chronicles was also propelled to the top of Amazon.com's best-sellers list as its previous incarnation, Monado: Beginning of the World, through preorders alone.

Nintendo of America was keen to point out that the company never says "never" and only ever confirms if a title is or isn't launching at the time of writing.

While the European version of Xenoblade Chronicles will not play on North American Wii consoles, the Japanese versions of all three titles will, as North America and Japan are both part of the NTSC region.

Surely that's old news by now...
