E3: New information revealed for Super Mario for 3DS

By Jack Taylor – 10 June 2011

Super Mario was shown off during Nintendo's E3 media presentation and many new details have been revealed throughout the week.

Super Mario has been highly anticipated ever since it was revealed at the 2011 Game Developers Conference back in March, and this week at E3, it was finally playable.

Super Mario is essentially a "classic" Mario platformer, with a world map, the likes of which was more recently featured in Super Mario Galaxy 2, shorter levels and the return of the Tanooki Suit.

Old enemies return - the classics, such as Goomba and Koopa, can never be left out - and new enemies are introduced, such as a Goomba with a tail and an ink-spitting Piranha Plant.

Super Mario even includes a tribute to The Legend of Zelda on its 25th anniversary, as Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed the game will include a special top-down level taken almost directly out of A Link to the Past.

Super Mario is well on course to launch this year, and we'll keep you up-to-date on the latest news for it.
