E3: Miyamoto confirms Pikmin project moved to Wii U

By Jack Taylor – 8 June 2011

Shigeru Miyamoto has confirmed that the Pikmin title previously in development for Wii has now been moved to its successor.

It was three years ago, at E3 2008, that Shigeru Miyamoto finally announced to a delighted crowd, "we're making Pikmin".

In a developer roundtable following Nintendo's presentation at this year's E3, Miyamoto confirmed that Pikmin had been moved from Wii to its newly-announced successor, Wii U.

Earlier in the day, Nintendo were keen to stress that they would not be announcing any first-party titles for the system for the time being, making Pikmin the first confirmed first-party game for Wii U.

Miyamoto also stated that he decided to move the project because of the New Controller, its touch screen and the high-definition graphics Wii U can produce.

He also confirmed that the title was very far along in development, hinting that it may be one of the first titles to launch for the system.

Surely that's old news by now...
