Nintendo Direct: Metroid Prime Remastered gets surprise Switch release

By Jack Taylor – 9 February 2023

Metroid Prime Remastered has been announced - and released - for Nintendo Switch, bringing the 2002 classic to a whole new audience.

One of the last announcements in February's packed Nintendo Direct, Metroid Prime Remastered is a full and faithful remaster of the GameCube classic, first released in 2002. What's more, the digital version of the game is available right now on Nintendo eShop.

Metroid Prime is the first game in the series of the same name, and sees bounty hunter Samus Aran land on the Tallon IV, a planet filled with a wide variety of creatures and environments - and, more worringly, Space Pirates and Metroids. The remastered version is presented in full HD and widescreen, with a new dual-stock control option, selectable alongside an option more akin to the original control method.

Metroid Prime Remastered is out now on Nintendo eShop; a physical release will follow in North America on 22 February, and in Europe on 3 March.
