Video Games Advance – Early Access FAQ

Last updated: 16 January 2025

What is Video Games Advance?

Video Games Advance is a website providing news, reviews, media, and more for Nintendo and Sony platforms. Its current focuses are Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, and the impending announcement and reveal of the Nintendo Switch successor. The website has existed in one form or another since 2007 and is run solely by one person (that's me! I'm Jack).

Why is Video Games Advance in 'early access'?

Cutting a very long story short, though the website has been known by a few names, Video Games Advance itself opened its doors in 2019, and its previous design—which it had until I took the old website down in late 2024—had remained the same for the entirely of those five-plus years. I've been planning a revamp since mid-2021, but a mixture of significant personal and work matters have robbed me of the time (and, frankly, desire) to dedicate to the website. Having spent more than half my life on this site, in one form or another, it's been frustrating and upsetting to see it wither away, of my own doing.

However, with the Nintendo Switch successor firmly on the horizon, and me having a significantly better grip on life now than I have in recent years, it feels like the perfect time to grab the bull by the horns and make this happen. I want to have something online so that I can publish news and reviews, even if it means having the website up and running despite not quite being complete yet.

What this means in practice is that the website isn't feature-complete at this moment in time. There's a lot of work still to be done, but there is a roadmap to completion, and news will start to be published frequently from today, while social posts will also be starting up again on a gradual rollout across platforms.

What's the roadmap?

I'll be publishing the full roadmap in the near future, but the core elements are as follows:
